Understanding Economic Releases
To become a successful trader it is simply not enough to know whether an economic release comes in above or below estimates. Successful traders fully understand what different economic indicators are telling them about the health of a particular country’s economy. The first thing to understand in determining what economic releases will be important to a particular country is to identify what stage of the business cycle that country is currently within. Then traders can determine which economic releases will currently be of importance to that particular country. Understanding what releases are the most important to each country can help the new trader in deciding what time to trade, which is also extremely important.
Business Cycle
The recurring and fluctuating levels of economic activity that an economy experiences over a long period of time. The five stages of the business cycle are growth (expansion), peak, recession (contraction), trough and recovery. At one time, business cycles were thought to be extremely regular, with predictable durations. But today business cycles are widely known to be irregular - varying in frequency, magnitude and duration.
